The Evans College Incentive Program at Monterey Peninsula College works with local high schools and youth-serving organizations to identify students who may be ready for higher education, but who face considerable obstacles and are not on track to attend college. Students are nominated for the program and have the opportunity to earn up to $4,500 in financial assistance as they progress toward a degree. All program participants are low-income, and most students of color and the first in their family to attend college.
Participants in the program far outpace average MPC students with similar academic goals on a number of important success indicators, including persistence and degree completion. Since 2013, the Evans College Incentive Program has assisted 278 students to enroll at MPC who otherwise may never have attended college.
