Vision: Children have access to quality, affordable early care and education.
We know that early learning helps prepare children for school and that children who have quality learning experiences do better throughout life. However, for many families affordable high-quality childcare is not available. Success in this goal area sets the stage for success later in life.
Vision: Children are prepared for kindergarten.
We know that providing rich learning experiences that prepare students with language, reasoning, and social skills are crucial for entering kindergarten ready to succeed.
Vision: Children read, write and learn English in the elementary grades
We know that is it important for students to read and write in the language of instruction, that learning to read forms the foundation of learning in other academic subjects, and that early grade reading is a strong predictor of academic success. Monterey County has one of the highest rates of English learners in California, so supporting students to learn English and continue to grow in their native language is critical to success in this goal area.
Vision: Middle school students think critically to design solutions to real-world problems
Critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills are critical in the middle and high school years.
Vision: Middle and high school students are socially and emotionally healthy
We know that kids need to feel connected to people and organizations in their lives, that strong community ties improve quality of life, and that youth can impact our communities in positive ways.
Vision: High school graduates are prepared to enter a college or job training program to pursue their career aspirations
We know that there is a need to help students to be prepared with the academic skills, financial resources, and knowledge to prepare for higher education and entry into a career.
Vision: Young adults complete a program, certificate or degree that qualifies them to enter a promising career
We know that adults with post-high school training benefit from higher salaries, that communities benefit when graduates have in-demand skills, and that employers benefit when locally trained employees are available.
